Children & Young People

Counsellor for Children and Young People

You may be a young person looking to talk to someone or be the parent or carer of a younger child or teenager needing support. I have specialist training in this area and have many years experience as a counsellor for children and young people.

Being a young person can be really hard work and it’s not a sign of weakness to ask for help when you’re struggling and feel no-one understands you. I provide a confidential safe place to talk about any issue where you will not be judged or criticised, and help you find ways to manage your worries and begin to enjoy life again. I believe in helping you to understand and take control of your situation, as far as you can, and to make healthy and positive choices about your life.

I enjoy helping young people cope with the particular pressures they experience growing up in today’s world with all its challenges and opportunities. I am able to provide help and support for young people and children trying to cope with a wide range of issues, including among others: anxiety and depression, lack of self-confidence or self-worth, abuse, on-line bullying, bereavement, problems at school or college, self-harm or suicidal thoughts, feeling unhappy, and family or relationship difficulties. I am comfortable working with children and young people of all ages and backgrounds, including those with learning difficulties or behavioural problems.

My Experience

As well as private practice, I work in a school providing counselling for teenagers and children. I have extensive experience of the particular difficulties and stresses children and young people may find themselves struggling with at different ages and situations. I am experienced in working with young people with learning difficulties and additional needs, including those on the Autism Spectrum, as well as those from a wide range of cultural and ethnic backgrounds.

All my work with children and young people provides support with high standards for Child Protection and Safeguarding. This means if the young person or someone they tell me about is at risk of serious harm I will need to tell someone about this, and I will usually talk to the young person about this first. I refer to and work with other agencies where this is in the young person’s best interests and beyond my particular areas of expertise.
